Parking in WIT

As of the 7 April the front car park in WIT will be controlled access. The idea behind this is that there will only be enough cars as there are spaces. This is a good idea in theory. However, at the moment I’m taking a very cynical view of this and as such at the moment I believe that all this is going to do is create more chaos in the back car park.

The college seems to be taking the view that having car parks better organised will help the problem. And aesthetically they are right limiting access to the number of spaces available will make the car parks look much better and improve the look and feel of the college to visitors.
But, yes there is always a but, if this is the plan they intend to roll out they are merely going to change the problem. Currently the problem with parking is that cars are abandoned anywhere there is space. If this is resolved by limiting peoples access to the car parks then the problem is simply going to cause even more chaos and congestion in the surrounding housing estates.
To me the only way to begin to solve this problem is to try and reduce the number of cars that are trying to use the parking facilities. Then the system they are trying to implement will work.
